Our model of the week is a beautiful Chicago native named Barbara Medina. This Chicago model has years of experience in print and promotional modeling and has made modeling her full time job. We asked this model 18 juicy questions, read on to hear her answers.
How did you get involved in the modeling industry?
A great friend of mine suggested it to me. He asked me to try it a dozen times, thankfully he’s quite persistent and I finally said “yes”
What is the worst modeling job you ever had?
I was booked for a trade show in San Francisco, California. The client did NOT want the models in the booth. Therefore another model as well as myself spent 4 days outside in the wind, rain and sometimes very hot sun. We did everything that was asked of us and more. Unfortunately, the client still sent negative feedback for both of us! We returned to Chicago sun burned, wind chapped and completely exhausted.
Do you have any beauty secrets you would like to share?
COLOR-LAB! It is a small boutique on Armitage and Chicago. They actually make your cosmetics right then and there. You use the pigments, taste, smell and even the name of your product! They have everything from eyeshadow to lip-gloss! Try it!
Where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Chicago, IL.
Guilty pleasure?
Without a shadow of doubt CHOCOLATE! I really should not but I have the biggest sweet tooth ever.
Biggest regret?
Honestly, not modeling earlier. I wish that I had started in my teens.
Favorite way to spend your Saturday?
Getting a pedicure and manicure. Then a trip to the Art Institute! I am definitely an art lover.
Name 3 things you can’t leave the house without.
The first would have to be my iphone, in the modeling industry a phone capable of email ect is a must. Second, Business cards. You never know whom you will meet! Third, make-up of course.
Relationship status?
I am currently engaged to be married in July of 2009
If you could get cosmetic surgery tomorrow is there anything you would get done?
Hmmmmmm…fuller lips!
Explain your worst date.
Oh god, I know it’s cliche but a blind date. I did see a photo of him prior to the date. Lets just say it must have been an old photo.
What do you spend most of your money on?
Bills , unfortunately.
Any pet peeves?
What pops into mind are… 1. People who cut you off to slam on their brakes! 2. People with no manners or etiquette.
Favorite place to shop?
The mecca of shopping of course, New York! I have to save save save when I know I will be traveling there.
C.D. playing in your car right now?
It’s a mix my Fiance made for me that he titled “Mixtastic” It’s mostly alternative.
Any advice for girls trying to get into the modeling industry?
The first thing is “Be strong” you definitely have to quickly grasp the concept of “Don’t let things get to you.” There will always be individuals who will say things that are rude or inappropriate. I guarantee you will become upset on numerous occasions with clients, agencies and other models as well. Just be the bigger person and stay cool, calm, and collective. The second thing is just be yourself no matter what. This is a quote that I live by every day… “Be yourself, who else is better qualified” ~Albert Einstein.
